[Solved] Replace straight quotes with typeset quotes

Post by BobSongs »

In MSW, I can replace basic single and double quotes ('single' "double") with the typeset type quotes that resemble 6s and 9s (‘single’ “double”) by simply doing a search and replace. This is done when text is copied from a website or another document.

I have installed Alternative Find & Replace for Writer and I'm very impressed. However, at this time the only way to replace quotation marks is to painstakingly go through the document and replace them one at a time.

Is there a tutorial on how to work this?

Edit → Find&Replace is the wrong tool. No need to install anything.
[Tutorial] Convert straight quotes to custom quotes with AutoCorrect

If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit ✏️ button and add [Solved] to the start of the Subject field. Select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

It may have been the case 14 years ago. Don't remember exactly for the quotes.
But I do recall that for some French rules (unbreakable space before a column for example), in the begining, you had to install an extension or at least a macro with a key listener to do the trick.

AOO 4.1.7 AutoCorrect → Localized options offers Add non-breaking space before specific punctuation marks in French text. I have not investigated how that works since i am not familar enough with that language to understand how/when the rule is applied. Je connais un peu le français du collège.

Oh, I just noticed now that the original post was in 2010! I read it as a recent post. Thanks for marking it as [Solved].

Yes, the feature has been integrated very quickly in the main code. But I don't remember exactly when.

In French, the rule is not that complicated: if the punctuation mark is made of 2 items (? ! ; :), then there is a space before (usually a unbreakable one).
However, before the 3 dots "...", there is... no space before (even if 3 items).
