Java just ran an update (Windows XP) and as the setup program ran it displayed an ad for OpenOffice. But the ad was a very poorly resized bitmap and looked pretty bad. Seems like bad press for OO... any idea who to contact about this?

Re: Java installer has an ad for OO which looks pretty bad
Hi,
An Issue about that has already been opened ( from the RC1 binary ) - but it marked as WON't FIX ( or Can't fix ) as it is the Sun Java guys that are responsible. Oddly after it was marked as WON'T FIX the OO.o QA folks came back asking for details on the screen resolution...so who knows, maybe someone is looking at it and thinking it worth a fix.

I agree, it is pretty bad but at least it is some publicity which may get to people who'd never heard of OOo.

Re: Java installer has an ad for OO which looks pretty bad
While I agree the installer ad resolution was poor, I just saw it today as I was updating java on my computer at work. This prompted me to come check out openoffice.org. I came to the community forum to check out what kind of problems and posts were here. I have a couple of clients that we've been discussing the expense of an MSOffice upgrade for 15 workstations. I am thinking about testing OpenOffice.org and possibly making a recommendation to have them consider this as an option. I think anyone faced with MSOffice 2007 and Vista might consider another option. Just to let you know even poor advertising can work.

That's funny, the French version of the ad is better:

It's all about screen resolution - It looks fine under 1024X768 and bad at 1280X1024...

Definitely Sun Microsystems, but not sure about the address. Maybe here: http://developers.sun.com/contact/index.jspdhollm wrote:any idea who to contact about this?
