problem uninstalling openoffice

Post by miksmatias »

I cleared up my hard disk my removing programs that i no longer need. When i'm about to uninstall openoffice 2.3, the remove button for openoffice in the add/remove window of Windowsxp disappeared. Now i cannot uninstall the program. I tried to reinstall the program from its orginal installation package but installation failed; it was looking for the file "openofficeorg20.msi" which does exist anymore. I want to remove openoffice from system. What can i do? Is there a way to manually uninstall this program. Please HELP!

IIRC, you need the Windows clean-up utility:

msi : The Windows Installer Cleanup Utility :

http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... sicuu2.exe

Those are oldish links.

Read the description abut the windows installer cleanup utility. Programs seems to create more problems since it would require to reinstall other programs. Is there a safer way?

Using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility shouldn't require reinstalling other programs. It doesn't uninstall programs. It just removes the selected program's installation data from the registry. Use the utility to remove OpenOffice.org's installation data, then reinstall the same version of OOo. Once OpenOffice.org is reinstalled, the missing msi file should be restored--allowing OpenOffice.org to be uninstalled normally.
