[Solved] Font colors won't change in Writer
[Solved] Font colors won't change in Writer
All of sudden I cannot change font colors. The color change occurs in the sample text area of the Character dialogue box, but not in the document. Never had this problem until yesterday while I was giving an OpenOffice Writer lecture at my computer club. Embarrassing situation. Never happened before. I have not changed any settings.

Hi and welcome to the forum!
Have you tried to play with the Tools>Options>OOo>Accessibility options? Make sure that the Use automatic font color for screen display is unchecked.
NB: please don't post in upper case, it means you're shouting.
Please add '[Solved]' at the beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

I have a similar problem, but specifically with URLs. They always stay blue, even when I tell Writer to change them to black. Back in version 2, this used to be solved by exporting to a PDF, but in version 3, that doesn’t work. They stay blue even in the PDF.
I miss version 2.

Format / Styles and Formatting then in that window click on second icon from left (Character styles). Right click on Internet Link and select Modify. Change Font Effects tab to suit your needs.

Re: Font colors won't change in Writer
I was able to set the default colour for URLs to black, which gets around my immediate problem: making sure URLs print black in my final document.
However, the underlying bug remains, because now I can't not make them black. Say I select a paragraph containing a URL and tell the font to be red. Everything will be red except the URL, which stays black, just as it used to stay blue.

Right click on the black hyperlink, select Character and Font Effects Tab, change Font Colour to Automatic (top of drop-down list).

Re: Font colors won't change in Writer
I tried a number of solutions shown on Forum but no luck! In desperation I created a new OO Write File, copied and pasted all from troubled Document (Fortunately only about 6 pages) and now it works. Here's hoping!
Open Office 3.2.0 on Windows 7 64bit
Re: Font colors won't change in Writer
In which format did you Save your file? Some format niceties may not work in .doc format; best to use OO's native format .odt.
Windows 7 and OpenOffice 3.2.0 are no longer supported - they are both very old.
