Delete default function in OOo Writer

Post by Defiant »

I want to delete all default functions in OO Writer in order to create a minimized program with an options-list, as in the good old eighties. I´m using OO as a typewriter only, and don´t want or need all these Word-wannabee-functions that pops up everywhere.

Today at least half of my time writing goes to fight all these functions and trying to convince OO that I want to do things my way. I was told that OO was a more easy-to-use program than Word, but i haven´t seen that yet.
Even CorelDraw is more simple to write letter with than OO 3.2.

I like open platforms, but why make it complicated just because one can?

Most users like the automated features. You can't satisfy everybody. So for advanced users, they have to spot the menus where they can disable all these automations. You were told so perhaps by someone who doesn't have the same use.

NB : if OOo is too complicated, perhaps it means that it's not the best tool for what you want to achieve.

Thanks to add '[Solved]' at beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

Why not use Notepad or if you want slightly more formatting options, Wordpad? Using OOo to do what you want is like using a giant excavator to go to the corner store for milk. There are horses for courses.

Format > AutoCorrect > While Typing: OFF should kill all automated features except spell check, and that's just a click on the toolbar. If you ever need a table, there is one other thing to turn off.

You can use View > Toolbars to turn off all the toolbars, and Tools > Customize to get rid of extra menu items.

Not that you asked for it, but my advice: just learn to ignore the stuff you don't want. Customizing like this is usually a waste of time. Someday you'll need something you've deleted and you'll have no idea where to find it and no one can help because your menus and toolbars are not like everyone elses.

The number recognition for tables is a nasty one also.
