[Solved] Modified setup.xcu; Writer now getting I/O errors.

Post by wagenejm »

Good day to everyone,

First a little back story. I've working in a Windows XP environment and have been trying to suppress the Registration Wizard from appearing for each subsequent user that logs into a machine. The computers have several users, and are in areas where there is a lot of turnover in the workforce of the agency, so each new user having to complete the wizard is not an optimal setup. I've read where I can edit the setup.xcu file within the main program and prevent the registration wizard from popping up and I've been able to successfully do this.

Now comes the problem I'm facing. Since modifying setup.xcu, each new user opening Writer is receiving a pop-up dialog with a "general input/output error" for the files dialog.xlc and dialogs.xli. This only occurs on any new user profiles; the existing profiles do not give this error. In looking at the user's application data, I'm not even seeing the existence of these files, and I've read where these files are supposed to be automatically generated within the application data folder within the user's profile upon loading OpenOffice, as some previous solutions to general errors within Writer are to delete or rename those files and the software will regenerate the files. I am wondering what the problem here is, and so I'm seeking help on the forums. The only modification I made to setup.xcu was to add the lines to prevent the registration wizard from opening and nothing more. The errors didn't begin until after the setup.xcu modifications and I've even verified by uninstalling and reinstalling completely.

Thanks for your help and/or suggestions!

Sorry, I just came up with a solution. Apparently one of the lines I added was somehow generating the errors. I saw where someone posted they only added the licence accept date and fixed their problems, so I tried removing the entries I added one by one and it worked. Apparently my copy/paste caused an error, or the post I was copying from was in error. Thanks!
