[Solved] OO quits 10 seconds after it is launched

Post by kevlynch »

I recently installed OO on my corp laptop (running Windows XP). Every application in the suite quits exactly 10 seconds after the app is launched. I suspect that the corp. network may have something to do with this, but was wondering if anyone had any troubleshooting suggestions. I searched this forum fairly comprehensively and came up empty.

Thanks in advance...

Try turning off the "check for updates" feature:
Tools > Options > OO.org > Online Update > Update Options > Check automatically = NO

See if that prevents the crash.

To do that, he has to get the application started. :D

I'm afraid I don't have any knowledge of the issue. You could try searching http://www.oooforum.org for 'network'. There have been a number of threads pertaining to network problems. You could check out the Wiki page on hacking the installer and the ootech site. For some reason I forget, I have this page on ootech bookmarked.

FWIW, it sounds to me like a permissions problem.

Any firewall or antivirus that could prevent OOo from running? Have you tried to rename your OOo user profile? (\Documents and settings\<user>\Application data\OpenOffice.org2).

Thank you all so much for your prompt responses. After some speed typing practice, I was able to get the automatic update turned off in less than 10 seconds. This seems to have resolved the crash. I guess I will manually update new releases...

This was my first post to this board and I am very impressed by the responsiveness of the community...Thanks again!
