Discard Changes Discarded Everything

Post by rettamichaels »

Welcome beginner. Please answer all of the questions below which may provide information necessary to answer your question.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Which version of OpenOffice.org are you using? OpenOffice 2.3
What Operating System (version) are you using? Windows XP
What is your question or comment?

I was writing a story with the text document and pressed discard changes thinking it would discard the changes since the last save. It discarded everything in my document...some sixteen pages of the story. How do I get the story back?

Thanks,

If you did not save the "empty" document, you can re-open the last saved version of the document. One advice when using Writer: Save your documents every 15 minutes of editing (just click on the diskette on the toolbar), and once a day do a copy of the document in a separate folder (call it Backup for example) with the name your_file_name_2008-02-20.odt, this takes less than one minute but can save you one day of work!

Pressing CTRL+Z after rejecting changes should undo the rejection.

I've never had it do that to any documents of mine. I assume you were closing the document at the time. Did you discover a blank document when you re-opened the file, or did you see a blank document after you rejected changes? If the former, then you might have a problem. If the latter, I'll bet you were looking at a new 'Untitled' document instead of your story, which had closed.
Cheers!
