Re: Make Spell Check Ignore Words in Italics
You can, by using a character style. Create a character style that includes italics and the foreign language. From Tools, Customize, Keyboard, you can assign a shortcut to use to apply that style. Control Shift Space is the shortcut to return to the default paragraph style. If the dictionary for the foreign language is installed, Oo will check the text with that. If you don't want to install the dictionary, then set the language in the style to [none].

No, not directly.
But better than that, you can define a character style for those words, and include in the definition both the formatting (italic) and the language of the word or phrase, then OOo can either check the spelling of the word (e.g. if the style specifies that the language is German, and you have the German dictionary installed), or not check the spelling at all if the style specifies that the language is "None".
Just define the style as you like, then instead of making the foreign word italic, just apply your custom style to it. The style will make it italic, and provide the language property you selected.

Thank you both for that rapid response! A brief experiment using character styles shows it will do what I need. Thanks!
