[Solved] OpenOffice 2.3 & 2.3.1 won't save file
Just recently OpenOffice has been screwing up on my laptop. I can't get it to save .odt files and .doc files. I updated to 2.3.1 and the same problem is occurring. I don't know what to do or why this is happening.

Please read the Survival guide for the forum first. People can often only help you if you tell what version of OOo and what OS you use. Also give more details about what happens when you attempt to save a file - do you get an error message, anything that can help us identify your problem. Thank you for helping us help you.

I realize this doesn't happen to everyone. My boyfriend uses OpenOffice and doesn't have a problem with it. I don't get any error messages or anything of that sort. This is the first time I've ever had a problem with it and I've used OpenOffice for a long time. The problem started occurring about two weeks ago.
The program just won't save any new document in the format I want. Whenever I save a file it will save as a file. I know that is a general term, but when I go to the properties of it the window will have "Type of file: File" instead of "Type of file: OpenDocument Text." When I try to open the file a window will pop up and want me to choose the program I want to use.
I use OpenOffice version 2.3 and my OS is Windows XP Media Center.

In the Save dialog, is "automatic file name extension" selected? When that isn't selected and you don't manually type the file extension in the file name, the files are saved with no extension, so the operating system doesn't know what kind of file it is and shows them as just "file."
