I experienced too that non of the Avestan glyphs in UnicodeCard "Avestan" (U+ 10B00 ff.) can be displayed in OpenOfficeWriter Version 3.1.1.
They are shown in "Einfügen/ Sonderzeichen", but cannot displayed.

UnicodeCard "Avestan" ???
What about the Avestan fonts here:

There is Alphabetum, but that is not free:

The fonts you recommended are not created concerning Unicode Code Card "Avestan". I made such a font, and with this Font I have display problems; in OpenOfficeWriter as well as in Microsoft's Office XP

Re: OpenOfficeWriter and Unicode 5.2
If you have the problem in both MS Office XP and in OpenOffice, then the problem is almost certainly an internal problem of the font; either you get a fixed copy of the font, or you change to some other font, as suggested by Robert Tucker.

Re: OpenOfficeWriter and Unicode 5.2
Try inputting by Unicode number. ("The UnicodeInput Utility" works for me on Windows 7, another I haven't tried is "Quick Unicode Input tool".)
Otherwise perhaps you'd like to attach your font to see if others have any luck with it.

Re: OpenOfficeWriter and Unicode 5.2
There must be a bug in OpenOffice 3.1.1.
it only is able to display Unocode Code Point up to U+FFFF.
Not so in Microsoft's "editor".
It is able to disay Unicode Code Point bigger than U+FFFF, too; i.e. for example U+10B00 etc.

This may be arise from an internal arithmetic limitation. You should report it as a bug,EtreUrdu wrote:There must be a bug in OpenOffice 3.1.1.

You need to do what is described in the Reporting Bugs tutorial, not just add your post to the tutorial thread. I have merged your post back into this thread. If you wish to report a bug, read what it says in the tutorial thread and then follow the directions within it. Don't post directly into that thread.EtreUrdu wrote:There must be a bug in OpenOffice 3.1.1.

Re: OpenOfficeWriter and Unicode 5.2
Concerning Avestan Unicode U+10B00 ff.
I tried to make a keyboard layout using Keyboard Layout Creator.
Error 2020 (..\.\tmpkbdAvest.txt, line 59):
VK_OEM_PLUS (bb) found at scancode 1b and 0d.
So I think there must be something like a bug in Microsoft's Keyboard Layout Creator 1.4, too?
Have you any experiences with that?

I just got my Avestan font (U+10B00 ff.) to be displayed in OpenOfficeWriter now, but only if I choose left to right writing direction

But if I choose right to left writing direction, there nothing is dispayed.

I don't no the reason why.
Maybe you can give me some advices.
Thanks in advance.

it has it

but some glyphs are displayed right to left mismatched.
I think it may be a problem of not yet eactly defined how to add Avestan (right to left) to OpenOfficeWriter. But I'm not sure.

Re: OpenOfficeWriter and Unicode 5.2
Having received your font via email as agreed, I set the language to "None " at the bottom of the OpenOffice window and set the font for CTL at Format>Character>Font to OnlyOrmuzd and got this result:
I've had very little luck getting the font to work on Windows 7.

Re: OpenOfficeWriter and Unicode 5.2
Thank you Robert.
You achieved to put in Avestan in Ubuntu Linux - I suppose - from right to left.
If you put in
SSHE TE.JPG
do you get
SSHETE.JPG?
Will say, if this occurs putting in ligatures are functioning.

Yes, (in Fedora 12).EtreUrdu wrote:You achieved to put in Avestan in Ubuntu Linux - I suppose - from right to left.
I tried typing the characters sshe and te one after the other but the ligature did not appear – I just got the two separate characters. The ligature is listed (together with the others) in the Special Character box and is shown in FontForge thus:
Oddly on Windows only the characters in the U+E03x range (which include the ligatures) are available:
those with Unicode values above FFFF have blank character boxes. This is reflected too in Firefox where on Linux:
http://www.alanwood.net/unicode/avestan.html
displays your font's characters but on Windows there are just squares with the Unicode numbers in them.
LibreOffice 7.x.x on Arch and Fedora.
Re: OpenOfficeWriter and Unicode 5.2
Maybe this is due do that there are still some bugs in my font concerning correct display of ligatures.
About Microsoft I got the following informations:
Simon Daniel wrote
simonda<at>microsoft.com
Here’s a possible explanation, if the font works fine in more recent versions of Office. (I think he's pointing to Microsoft's Office programs newer than Office 2003 etc., maybe Office 10 beta?)
and citing Andrew Glass
My recollection is that versions up to Word 2003 didn't support plane 1 characters.
Will say Microsft does not yet support Unicode U+10xxx Characters

I was using OpenOffice Writer, of course. But U+10001 and other Unicode characters above U+FFFF characters in the Code2001 font do work (as in my post above).EtreUrdu wrote:Will say Microsft does not yet support Unicode U+10xxx Characters

Re: OpenOfficeWriter and Unicode 5.2
I could see this.
But
Andrew Glass (Microsoft)
Team: Microsoft
wrote
Unfortunately Unicode 5.2 is not currently supported by Uniscribe - since Unicode 5.2 has not yet been released. This means that the most current version of Uniscribe that will ship with Windows 7 will not support these additions to the Devanagari block. We will be adding support for 5.2 for Windows 8.
Andrew
And this may be the reason why the ligatures in my "OnlyOrmuzd" Font do not function. This is due to the fact that uniscribe's newest versions (usp10.dll) neither in Windows XP nor in Windows 7 do support unicode version 5.2.
I got this problem with my Devanagari Font's updated version, too .

Robert, you wrote

Me too experienced that "The UnicodeInput Utility" works
in Wondows XP's Editor and WordPad, too.
And this from right to left direction.
But after having inputted one character one has to use the forward arrow -> before one can input the next one.
This is quite time consuming and one has to know the hex code of every character

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 and there using open office writer my Avestan font can be typed in correctly from right to left. But only by using the Symbols feature.
I am looking for a possibility to create an own kexboard layout in Ubuntu 10.04 but I couldn't yet find any tips to do so.
Do you have any ideas?
