[Solved] How to select pictures and shapes?

Post by writ »

I did the following exercise in a tutorial:

I cropped a picture using paint
Pasted the cropped picture in my document
Used the Writer draw feature to add a RED ARROW to the picture
Then saved the picture using Writer.
But when I go to use the cropped picture in another document by copy>>paste
The picture is pasted but without the RED ARROW .
Edit: Hagar -> changed title for better search results (was Writer + Paint = ?).

Yes because a pic and an arrow are of different species in Writer. You have to convert your pic as a graphic shape. To do so, open it (or paste it) in Draw, then, copy and paste it from Draw to Writer. Then, you'll be able to group it with other shapes or to rotate it, ...

Or, if you want them both together in one image, just take a screenshot of the Writer window (Alt+PrintScreen key, then paste in Paint) and crop that down to the part you want and copy/paste that into your other document.

To put it another way, drawn objects and image objects are two different things. The drawing objects don't just join up with the image object they sit over, they're layered over it.

But I need help understanding what you're doing. Why are you using Writer to insert and crop an image? What do you mean by you saved the image using Writer? To work with images you should be using an image editor. Use Draw instead of Writer... then you can group the two items together and create a single image that you would then be able to save and paste into a different document.

Where could I find the tutorial you were following?
Cheers!
