Greetings,
I've got a couple of strange things happening with Writer...... When I open a document I can neither use the File Function top left (it just won't open) nor can I page down a document using the slide bar and the right hand side of the page. It's become a bit of a pain.
Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Re: File Function Won't Work
Try to reset your OOo user profile but don't transfer your personal data during the welcome process (if you had 2.x before), configuration files from the former version might corrupt the new profile.

OK.... I reset my profile as described and restarted. The File function worked for a minute or two, then after bringing up one of my documents it stopped working as did the slider on the right.
I uninstalled the entire suite and cleared the registry, shut the system down, rebooted and reinstalled. Both problems still persist for some reason.
More suggestions welcome.......

Re: File Function Won't Work
Does the problem clear and then return after loading a file, as you suggest in the early part of your answer. In that case, what happens if you open a new file?
When you reinstalled, did you reinstall from a cached version of the OO install file, or did you do a new download? If the cached version, you should check the MD5sums http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/using_md5sums.html If your md5sums don't checkout then a new download is indicated. If you only have a slow (modem/dialup connection) we often advise using a Bittorrent download.

Opening a new file doesn't help matters any.
I'm using a high speed internet connection and downloaded a new version of OOo 3.11 from the OOo download site.

Are you sure you've full access to the directories in the user profile?

Re: File Function Won't Work
No, I guess I'm not so sure now....... I've looked into the 3 folder and the user.old folder is still there along side the new user folder.
What do I need to do to ensure I have full control and can blow the old stuff away?

Check the properties of the new user profile and propagate the full access to all files and sub-directories of that profile.
