Is there a way to restart list numbering using just the keyboard (ie, without having to use the mouse to get to the bullets and numbering toolbar)? I can't find it in the menus!
Even better, is there a way I can persuade writer that if I follow a list with anything other than a list then start a new list then by default I do not want it to resume the previous list? This was probably the most irritating (mis)feature of MS Word for me, and I was disappointed to find it in Writer too.
Thanks,
Tim

Re: Restarting numbering
Record a macro and assign a keyboard shortcut to the macro.
Re: Restarting numbering
If that's the only way to do it then I'll be going back to MS Word! The menus prompt me for the keystrokes to do the job, but a keyboard shortcut I'd be unlikely to remember.Bill wrote:Record a macro and assign a keyboard shortcut to the macro.
Re: Restarting numbering
You did ask for a way to do it using the keyboard. That means using a keyboard shortcut. How would you expect to do it using the keyboard without using a keyboard shortcut?
Re: Restarting numbering
I expect to find all non-graphical stuff under the menus somewhere -- it's a basic accessibility issue that makes my life more difficult (and, frankly, makes software look amateurish) if ignored. In MS Word it's under Format | Bullets and Numbering. I can't see it there in Writer, and I was hoping that it was somewhere else rather than having been forgotten altogether, particularly as the default behaviour (of both Word and Writer) is so hostile.Bill wrote:You did ask for a way to do it using the keyboard. Re: Restarting numbering
I understand now. Restart numbering isn't very easy to get to using the default menus, but you can add it to make it more convenient.digitig wrote:I expect to find all non-graphical stuff under the menus somewhere -- it's a basic accessibility issue that makes my life more difficult (and, frankly, makes software look amateurish) if ignored. Select Tools > Customize from the menu bar. Select the Menus tab on the Customize dialog. Select Format in the Menu box (assuming you want to add Restart Numbering to the Format menu). Select the Add button. On the Add Commands dialog, select the Numbering Category, select the Restart Numbering Command, then select the Add button and the Close button. Restart Numbering should now appear on the Customize dialog. You can use the arrows by the Menu Content Entries box to change the position of Restart Numbering in the menu. Select the OK button to close the Customize dialog.
It should now take only 3 keystrokes to restart numbering.
