Character Set issue opening an .ODT document

Postby glucke » Fri Oct 09, 2009 3:31 pm

Open Office Community...
My son created a new document (wrote a great ghost story for a school project to be specific)...however when he tried to open his saved .ODT file, the program asked for a "character set" and none of the sets selected would display anything beside ###### characters. Anyone...please help with this problem would be appreciated......

His document possibly damaged, not so much hope for repairing it.
If not too big (<128kb) upload damaged document: [Forum] How to attach a document here

By any chance, was the document stored on a USB memory stick ("thumb drive")?

Sorry, there's nothing in the file but zeros.

What OOo version exactly? Were you working on a USB stick?
See also 22 pages term paper replaced with pound signs.
AOO 4.1.7 on Xubuntu 19.10 and 4.1.5 on Windows 10 (with winPenPack port).
