Retrieve documents

Postby harrietbornstein12 » Sat Nov 10, 2018 4:12 pm

Hello: I had to purchase a new computer yesterday since mine "fried" for some unknown reason. I had backed up previously, but, unfortunately, not for the last 90 days. I use Open Office for my online college courses and save each time. Is there "any" way I can retrieve what was saved since my new computer doesn't show it was saved in my computer documents folder.

Just a prayer. Harriet

You will have to transfer these files from your old computer, then open them individually (in OO, use /File /Open) for them to show up in Recent Documents.

My old computer is completely blacked-out. I went to the Apple store yesterday and they said the power was completely lost possibly from a power surge or ???

The disk drive can be extracted and inserted into another computer. Do not let your old computer be junked until you get better hands-on advice.

If they can remove the hard disk and hand it to you, you are halfway there. Treat it with care. Then you only have to find someone who can extract the files and transfer them to a USB stick or better to your new computer.

I just came back from a recovery data center and he said he couldn't guarantee if my MacBook Air with the new Mojave version would be compatible with Open Office.

That's a different problem; getting your documents onto your new computer is one step; reading them is another. In fact OpenOffice can run on Mojave, as far as I know (I'm not a Mac person).
