[Solved] Opening PowerPoint

Post by fryn01 »

Hi,

I recently downloaded open office 4.1.1 on my computer. I had windows 8.1 and I upgraded to windows 10 and I can no longer open power point presentations. I could before the windows 10 download. Has anyone had this problem? Can anyone give me some help fixing this?

When I try to open powerpoint it brings up a window to try and get me to buy windows office or use a free trial. I just want to use open office but it doesn't give me that option. I can however open word documents with open office. Power point seems to be the only issue at this point.

I await your responses kind people :D

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Have you tried to change the file association? If you right click the file, can you select the application for the Open with option (or the properties)?

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the edit button if your issue has been fixed.

Thanks.

It wont let me right click. I'll attach what comes up. Then after I run through those it just brings up Microsoft office trial...

Thoughts?

Have you tried to save the file on your HD first and then to open it from the Windows Explorer (with the right click then)?

Your .pptx files are associated with the Microsoft Office Trial which has probably expired. You need to restore OpenOffice as the default program for .pptx files. Every version of Windows starting with Vista has had the Default Programs app which lets you set the file associations for different file types. Click the Start Button and search for Default Programs. Open the Default Programs Desktop App, then select the "Set your default programs" and follow the instructions.
