[Solved] creating business cards

Post by jaisaii »

I'm trying to create some business cards. I can't seem to find the proper template to use with my card stock, I use Avery stock #8876. which provides a sheet of 10 cards (2 columns X 5 rows)
I am using a jpg file for the card with no editing or anything just copy paste. then i sync and the 10 cards show up in the document. everything i can see is set correctly but when it prints. the bottom border is far too wide and the top border is not wide enough. i can't seem to adjust them correctly. if i increase the top border then it goes to two pages with 8 cards on one page and then two on the next page. i only want one page :( Maybe some one can point me to the proper documentation and/or provide me with the proper template to use for the cardstock that i have. thank you very much for any helpe you can provide.

Try using the built in template for 8877( its the same size). Go to File-->New Business Cards. Under Brand select Avery letter Size and under Type scroll down to 8877. Fill the first label and then click synchronize. Do File-->Print. I recommend that you print on plain paper until you get everything aligned correctly. See http://openoffice.blogs.com/openoffice/ ... e-wit.html for making adjustments to the fit of the template. Also read http://openoffice.blogs.com/openoffice/labels/ the November 2007 entry. Old but sill applicable.

If you go to Office Depot or a similar store they will sell you a packet of business card templates that include the proper codes to access their websites where you can make just about any kind of business card you wish. They are generally easy and print out excellent cards.

As I have trimmers/choppers/guillotines I simply set out any cards I need on an A4 page, usually using a credit card size, step and repeat the image, print on to A4 card, then chop them up.

Thanks RoryOF but that solution, even though it works, just isn't for me. Mainly cuz I don't have any cutters. :)

Well at the cost of a few sheets of paper to verify layout you can much about with a page of tables representing sheet of business cardsuntil everything works then put in the business card stock. Years ago I could not get a layout to work and I still print cards this way. It did take an hour or two.

In my case I had the cutter but not the stock.

Thanks to all who replied. Somehow I got things worked out and everything is fine now. I wish I could tell you how I did it but all I can say is that it was a combination of all your suggestions and a few mistakes, and accidents by me.Thanks again.
