ASCII filter
ASCII filter
I just tried to open a text file created yesterday and it asked for the ASCII filter to use. This never happened before and I cannot find a filter that gives me anything but hash marks. Help!

Re: ASCII filter
Welcome to the community forum! Sorry you're having trouble with your file.
Unfortunately, the hash marks indicate that the file content is damaged and unrecoverable. You'll have to go to a backup copy or start over.
Were you by chance working on a thumb drive or other removable media?

Re: ASCII filter
I was working on the hard drive of my laptop. Thanks for the reply; I will not put any more effort trying to recover this file.

Re: ASCII filter
You may perhaps have closed down the computer too quickly after closing the file. Best to give it a few seconds to housekeep while you tidy your papers away.
Edit: A deleted version may show up if you ruin an Undelete utility, such as Photorec or Recuva; the sooner such a utility is run after file loss, the better chances of recovery. |

Re: ASCII filter
It doesn't take long to save and flush the buffers, but can't cope with a File Save followed by an immediate shut off of the power switch or immediate snapping the laptop lid shut,
