Suddenly, seemingly for no reason at all, I cannot open any of my Open Office writer documents. I can open the files fine, and see all the documents, but I can't open them.

I would be most grateful if anyone has any ideas about what might be wrong.

The usual solution for this, and other situations where OO suddenly stops working as you're used to, is to reset your user profile.

How are you trying to open the documents? Are you double-clicking them? Are you selecting File > Open in OpenOffice? If you open the Task Manager, are there several instances of soffice.bin or other OpenOffice processes running? Is there an error message?

I'm afraid I am completely ignorant when it comes to computers. When I posted this topic, I just wanted to get some info, so my much cleverer neighbour could check out the options when he kindly came round to look at my computer. We did this thank you.

First we tried finding my user profile, but this proved quite difficult.

We then went to the task manager and found multiple soffice.bin processes. These we closed one at a time.... and then Open Office opened by itself. So the problem appears to be solved.
