[Solved] Paragraph jumps to next page, unwanted white space
I am experimenting with the paragraph settings but cannot seem to set it to where I can delete white space between paragraphs (see image as attachment). I am seeking total control of text. I have tried checking orphan and widow control and "keep with next paragraph" as well as unchecking "do not split paragraphs". I have tried different combinations to no avail!

Re: Paragraph jumps to next page leaving unwanted white spac
Hi and welcome to the forum!
Can you upload a sample file (see How to attach a document here)?
Sometimes, you've to delete the paragraph break and hit enter to recreate it (just hitting Enter) so that the settings are correctly applied.

Re: Paragraph jumps to next page leaving unwanted white spac
I suspect Hagar asked for a sample file, rather than a screenshot, so that he/we (ie: other helpers) could check for things like non-printing characters, which can be forced to display but don't normally show.
To see the non-printing characters, press Ctrl+F10
This may show characters that are forcing the new page.
Another thing, since you are using 'do not split paragraphs', are you sure the paragraph that shows on the next page will fit in the white space of the previous page?
Remember to account for all characters, including non-printing characters, when trying to figure out if it would fit or not.
If it's just one character longer, even a non-printing character, your 'do not split' requirement means that OO will put the entire paragraph on the next page, since you are telling it to not split the paragraph,
BTW: Ctrl+F10 will hide the non-printing characters if they are being displayed.

Re: Paragraph jumps to next page leaving unwanted white spac
Wow, you're mixing plenty of parameters!
I think that the main problem is the Do not split paragraph setting for the paragraph style. Combined with Keep with next paragraph, it leads for sure to such troubles.
You should use different paragraph styles and clean the Text body used for the main text from the setting cited above.
Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the edit button if your issue has been fixed.

Re: Paragraph jumps to next page leaving unwanted white spac
Great, but even dong this I am still not able to resolve.
I have tried all different settings, including unchecking "do not split" and checking "keep with paragraph". I also notice the settings do not seem to "stick" for some reason? Were you able to fix this issue from your end using the sample? Again, I am looking for as much tect control as I can when it comes to paragraph layout. Thanks for helping.

Re: Paragraph jumps to next page leaving unwanted white spac
I noticed you checked those three boxes and left "do not split" unchecked. Yet I did that too and still cannot delete the white space. Was there something else you did to the settings? When you make changes, do you highlight the entire document (control A), in order for the settings to affect everything?
And just wondering is there any reason you changed the text font?

The 3 settings are checked for the Title paragraph style only, not the Body text style, which is the style applied to the text paragaphs. Display the Stylist (F11) to see the change of style when you move your cursor (or use the side bar with the Stylist).
I changed the font because I don't have the one you use in your document. It was just so mimic yours. But it has no impact at all.

Re: Paragraph jumps to next page leaving unwanted white spac
Sorry, I still don't see exactly how to set this to take total control over the white space and paragraph. I have checked the three boxes and unchecked "do not split". I still cannot delete the white space at the end of some pages to bring paragraphs on the next page back. Would you just "spell" out and list what to do step by step?
WAIT! I think I see the problem. None of the settings are "sticking" even when I change them. Even when I select the entire document (control A) and change the settings, they are not sticking. Do you know why?

Re: Paragraph jumps to next page leaving unwanted white spac
No, for the Body text paragraph style, I've UNCHECKED all the settings in the Text flow Options.
NB: there was a blank paragraph that I've removed (a blank line).

Re: Paragraph jumps to next page leaving unwanted white spac
Yes I understand!!!!
However unchecking the four boxes does not stick permanently! I will go somewhere else in the document and it will be rechecked again! Even after I set it when clicking control A!

Re: Paragraph jumps to next page leaving unwanted white spac
That's why you should use paragraph styles and not apply formatting directly to individual paragraphs. If the options are checked for each paragraph, they must be unchecked for each paragraph. Try creating a new paragraph style with the options unchecked, then apply that paragraph style to the paragraphs.

Re: [Solved] Paragraph jumps to next page, unwanted white sp
I think that you were editing the settings of each paragraph. If you right click in the paragraph, select Edit paragraph style at the bottom of the context menu.

Re: [Solved] Paragraph jumps to next page, unwanted white sp
I understand this has been solved, however I found this thread while searching for a different issue involving automatic jumps after EACH paragraph. One thing I found that worked was going to INSERT> MANUAL BREAK> LINE BREAK. I discovered that for some reason "page break" had been selected. This was causing me problems. I figure it bears posting since other people may not find the solution here to be their fix. Thanks!
