Problem SAVING Documents "There was a problem connecting..."

Post by DanRock101 »

Greetings all!

I've been a loyal OO user since 2008. I just got the Apache version for my MacBook Pro Mavericks (and paid my donation! :-)

I've been getting the below error for the last YEAR. I thought by updating it would be fixed. Don't know why I'm getting the error.
No matter WHERE I save my files, Desktop, Documents Folder, it keeps having the below message and it won't go away and I'm
forced to Force-Quit the app.

Please the attached JPEG....sorry it's of poor quality but the Forum here only allows 128KB.

Any work arounds? Anyone else having this problem?

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

You should crop the irrelevent parts of the screen image from the photo (using Preview) before posting it. Your image would be more readable then. It's only the Save dialog box with the Cancel/Save buttons that's important. You could also resize that dialog box so it's smaller before capturing the screen image and cropping it.

Sure, I can reproduce the problem by attempting to save a file to a server that's not operating.

The message is from Mac OS X, not from Open Office. This is a Mac OS X problem, not an Open Office problem. During the Save [As] operation, Open Office needs to use Mac OS X facilities to save your file in the NEW FILES 2013 11 N… folder that you've indicated in the dialog. This folder apparently lives on the Daniel Delgado's Mac Mini server, and your Mac's connection to that server is not working. Either fix the connection, or save the file (temporarily) to some other location. I see you've tried to save to the Desktop and the Documents folders, but perhaps these are the Desktop on Daniel Delgado's Mac Mini or Documents on Daniel Delgado's Mac Mini. I believe if you press ⇧⌘D in the dialog box, you'll select the Desktop on the local machine and avoid the connection problem. Later you can move the file from the local machine's Desktop (using Finder) to the NEW FILES 2013 11 N… folder after you've corrected the connection to your server. Or, using Finder, verify that your machine can copy files to NEW FILES 2013 11 N… and when that's working save the file in Open Office. If you need additional help diagnosing or correcting the server connection, try a Mac or Apple forum. Your Mac's Help system (in Finder) may have some ideas too.

I hope you downloaded from http://www.openoffice.org/download/ and not somewhere else. Otherwise your donation might not have gone to Apache Open Office and, more importantly, you may have gotten Open Office repackaged with who-knows-what additional software/malware. Donations for this software are exactly that; they are voluntary. If you downloaded from a site which required a donation, that suggests trouble, though there are perfectly legitimate sites like NeoOffice that give you enhanced copies of Open Office when you "donate" to them.

If this answered your question please go to your first post use the Edit button and add [Solved] to the start of the title. You can select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

Thank you so much! Yes, I downloaded http://www.openoffice.org/download/ and it didn't REQUIRE me to donate. Thanks for the great program assistance!

Ok, here's the problem, I not connecting to a Server AT ALL; I'm just saving files on my computer, I don't know why it keeps having the same error. No other application is doing this. Right now Open Office is rendered UNUSABLE!

i have this problem since i use OO, so my "workaround" is not saving files to my desktop, which makes no sense, because if i have my destination folder on the desktop. so i created a shortcut folder in the sidebar. it's not the final solution, but for now it works. but the first action when i hit cmd+s is going to the desktop as i'm doing in all other programs and then i remember that it doesn't work in OO and i look like -> WHYYYY?!?!?! :knock:
