I am fairly new to the whole db thing, though I have used Access before, I've never used Base until now.
I need to create a form from a table. I get that I should just "Use Wizard to Create Form" but it won't let me. The option isn't available. I can't do anything with Forms or Reports. I tried using the option at the end of the Table Wizard to create a Form from the table but it just shuts down OO and when I recover the db it doesn't have a form or the table I tried to make the form from.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!

To help you, we need some more information:
-What OS are you using (Windows, LInux, Mac)
-What version of OpenOffice.org?
-What does the status bar at the bottom of your database document say. For example, does it say something like "embedded database" and "hsqldb engine" or does it say something else?
I am suspiscious that your tables don't have primary keys and this is the source of the problem, but I can't know for sure without more information.

Sorry about that...
I am on using Windows XP Pro, OO 2.4, and the status bar says "HSQL Database Engine".
I do have a primary key in the table...so any other thoughts?
Thanks!

Hi.
No solution just the same problem
I have created a new table with a keyfield autonumber, two text fields, a date field and an image field.
This was on a new install of oo (2.40), where only Base and Draw were installed, with none of the optional extras.
I am running XP SP3.
Neither the reports nor forms are enabled in any way; both the wizard and design views are greyed out.
I do not know if there are some dependencies between the forms and the non-installed components.
I am trying to evaluate a move from MS Access to base for teaching databases at a wide range of levels, where the wizards are crucial the lower end.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received since I need to have made a decision in time for it to be included in the new build for the next academic year.
Many thanks.
Martin.

For using Forms, Writer needs to be installed, all forms and Repots Writer document files, indserted into Base file.

It works
Many thanks.
I wondered if it was a dependency issue, but there were no warnings during installation to say that sgnificant functionality of one part of the package significantly depends on the installation of another part.
Thanks again
