Update function inoperative

Post by Klaatu »

I've been using OO since v. 114 and find that the update function (Help>Check for Updates) still doesn't work.

For instance, just today I received an OpenOffice.org Community e-mail alert announcing the immediate availability of
OpenOffice.org Release 2.3.1. Ok. So I open Writer, choose Help>Check for Updates and am informed that OpenOffice.org 2.3 is up to date.

Now, I like the suite and beggars can't be choosers but when WILL update work so users won't have to download the whole 100+MB file over again? Or am I simply doing something wrong?

Thanks.

Downloading the whole thing will be requiered in the forceeable future. I haven't heard of any planned update that will get rid of this. All check for updates does, AFAIK, is point out that an update is available.
At least on Windows.

So shouldn't Update have indicated at least that an update was available from 2.3 to 2.3.1? Because it didn't indicate so.

Yes, but the update has only been ready for a couple of hours. Chances are that, whatever site/mirror OOo checks hasn't been updated yet. It could also have to do with the language version you are using.
