Laptop/mobile phone synch

Post by Dave 2000 »

Hi all, I did ask this question last year but the response was somewhat vague,so now a little more time has passed I will ask again asthings move so fast in the OT market.

At the moment I use an elderly mobile phone (TYTNII) which has worked perfectly for about 5 plus years now. The phone has MS office mobile installed and I use the Excel and Word applications every day, when I arrive home and my laptop (WIN7) is switched on the phone syncs via Bluetooth with the Office 2003 I have installed and this would include Outlook, this means my calender/tasks/contacts along with any alterations I have made to my Excel or Word documents ect all are updated.

Now as the whole affair is getting a bit long in the tooth although still working, I intend to purchase a new phone (probably latest Samsung Galaxy) and a new office 2010 suite however, costs are very high, sooooo can Open Office mimic what I have without adding a shed load of other third party software?

Many thanks in advance for any help you can offer,

Dave

Only MS Office is designed for a 100% Microsoft stack.
By no means, this office suite is not a clone of MS Office nor is it made to save you expenses for MS software.
It is a much, much smaller, indefinitely less expensive, runs on 5 different operating systems and creates standardized and free file formats.

Is that a yes or a no then?

If I can get OO on a modern mobile and obviously it goes on a PC or laptop can they be made to 'talk' to each other?

I suppose if the answer is no then the next question is why not, is it more difficult to write software for mobile applications considering the 'small computer' is more mobile than ever now?

It is not in the enonomic interest of Microsoft that any software other than their own is able to communicate with Exchange servers and Outlook clients in the same sophisticated ways as their own software does.
It is not in the economic interest of the free software community to build a very special version of OpenOffice for MS Windows which behaves like an MS Office clone. It would be a completely insane amount of work with a high risk of confrontation with a hord of the world's best payed comany lawyers.
Producing software is not about wishful thinking coming true. It's entirely about claims.
If you want MS Office, then get it. It is free of cost since they removed what they call "Genuine Advantage". Just search youtube for "ripping Microsoft Office 2010" and get your free dose of their latest shit.
The answer is No! and it will never be yes as long as the Microsoft company exists.
If you don't know how to synchronize your document files between devices without Exchange/Outlook, then you are bound to MS Office and nothing else.
