[Solved] How to alphabetize a list

Post by momo9 »

I am totally lacking in computer skills. I can go on open office and type something up, but do not understand much. I typed a long list. I'd like to alphabetize the list. How can I do that?

Hi and welcome to the forum!

What component? Writer? Calc?

In Writer, select the text and Tools>Sort, it will sort the paragraphs.

Please add '[Solved]' at the beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

Solved. Thank you Hagar. I got it done but not the way you tried to direct me.. I typed this once already and do not know if it posted. I may be redundant. Momo9

Please, OpenOffice people, add an entry to the Help page under "alphabetize" or "alphabetical order." English majors and many other people think that sorting alphabetically is called alphabetizing -- and never stumble on the idea to search under "sort."

So they understand big words like "alphabetize", but don't know words such as "sort"? O tempora, o mores.

Those English majors can volunteer to add the entry to Help, but it would be much quicker to learn how to use Google. Google found the answer without any stumbling in less than five seconds with a search for openoffice alphabetize list.

Rather than rely on monopoly Google (and get my search history record, SORTED, and advertised), my go-to source is the help page associated with a product.

But maybe I (though not an English major, per se) will volunteer.

Maybe that's why we get so many repeat questions about some common problems. Users don't actually search for a solution before asking.
