Writer can take up to 40 seconds to paste text I've copied from another application. I've tried resinstalling. I've done my windows updates. Pasting into other applications (such as notepad) is not a problem.
With task manager open, I see that Writes goes into a "Not Responding" status while I wait for the text to paste.
Interestingly, it doesn't always take 40 seconds. Sometimes it will paste right away. The only time I can reliable recreate the 40 second delay is when I copy into a new file for the first time. It does happen on subsequent pastings, but I don't see a pattern to how often.
Any idea what could be causing this or how I could fix it?

If the copy comes from the web browser (i.e. content from the web), it takes some time because OOo retrieves the content (and keeps the link until you break it). In Notepad, you only paste the text (unformatted). have you tried to paste as unformatted text in OOo (long click on the paste button) ?

Re: it takes 40 seconds to paste into Writer
i have more than one computer in the network with open office on it. this delay happens only on 1 of the machines, so this delay is not normal for openoffice. something needs to be fixed/changed on this computer.
but, yes, pasting it as unformatted text does past quickly. this doesn't fix the problem, but i guess it does shed some light on what's causing the delay.
... so why is just this one machine hanging when it comes to pasting down formatted text???

Sun spots. Gremlins.
Depends on your infrastructure, but maybe it could just be solved with a reinstall of OO.o, or the operating system, or waving some chicken bones at it.
Don't want to sound cynical, but computers are complex things. Sometimes the easiest thing to do when you have 1 computer acting up is to "start from scratch".
Since reinstalling OO.o doesn't take too long, I'd try that first. Secondly, look at any applications that are different on that one computer compared to the others, also check what other applications may be running while you do your copy/pasting, look at hardware differences, look at operating system patches, etc. etc.

Firewall or antivirus configuration perhaps ?

I would personally lean towards cache setting on something, or XYZ application was running, or had been run and had not cleared memory, etc. Is this computer used for a special purpose? (Small network and it is doing duty as a print server as an example? Or graphic design workstation?)
