Creating and Importing into Table Template

Post by Charles218 »

Every month I export data from a Google spreadsheet as plain text and then open it in OO Writer, I then use the "text to table" command to create a table. From there I format the table and then save as html so I can place the table on a web site. I would like to see if I can create a template so that I can import the text directly into the table with all of the correct formatting already in place. The amount of data varies so the table sometimes has more rows and sometimes has fewer rows. I actually have to do three of these each month and it gets rather tedious formatting each table one at a time. Is there a way to do this?

Base can do this easily.
File>New>Database...
[X] Connect to existing database
Type: Text
Specify the directory of your text file(s) and the other import parameters.
Save the database.
Now you see the text file(s) represented as tables of a pseudo-database (read-only, no relations).
Right-click a table and create a report. A report is a Writer document with dynamic content.
You can right-click>edit the finished report and change the formatting.

Next time you replace the old file with the new one using the same file name and open the report.
Please, edit this topic's initial post and add "[Solved]" to the subject line if your problem has been solved.

Villeroy,

Thanks so much for your assistance, it is very helpful. I have been gone for the past couple of days and am only now finding time to work on this. I do need a little more help with the last couple of steps, I am pretty much a novice and just need clarification on how to format the report and then what happens after I create it. Will get to these tomorrow and give more specifics.

Thanks!
