i have been using calc as my database ...
OOo comes with a relational database which is certainly not Calc.

ok sorry i use a spread sheet called calc which i treat as my database..

This kind of formula works also in OpenOffice.

What is wrong with the formulas when you open your xls in Calc? Even if this is ridiculous to do in a spreadsheet, these formulas should "work" as in Excel.
