[Solved] Writer Default Template and enter key

Post by MarkV »

I had an issue where OpenOffice Writer would insert a page break everytime I hit the enter key instead of a paragraph. I modified the default template and it corrected itself. However, today this anomaly began again. After about an hour of re-saving etc. I cannot restore the Enter key to a carriage return (paragraph). In the midst I clicked the wrong "reset" button in my ignorance and then "save" and now have no keys set.

Q #1: Is the carriage return (enter key) turning in to a page break a known bug?

q #2: is there a link to the standard "default" template anywhere? I just cruised through all the templates on the OpenOffice.org site and did not find one...am I missing something or are the defaults not there? "Default" is not in my template list, just my modified template I called "writer" which I only intended to have a different default font and 1.5 lines after a carriage return (enter key).

Seems dumb and simple but I would rather just download the template and start over which may solve Q #1 rather than spend two hours resetting all the "shortcut" keys.

Thank you in advance for any responses.

Actually I resorted to re-installing OO.o but that did not help- I selected the "repair" option.

What I actually did was to copy the Default file from a second netbook running Windows 7 that I installed open office on. Then I moved the Default onto a flash drive... then saved it over the file on 'this' netbook (WinXP) and THAT "fixed" it.

I am not sure how or what happened or how it got corrupted in the first place- it worked fine for months and then suddenly didn't. However, the above solved the problem...Basically no problems since; modified the default template to reflect my font preference, saved it, still not problem.

So this was the "fix" I used. Might not helped someone without two computers but hey, now you know.
