Hi and welcome to the forum!

As a first shot, right click inside the pie, and Insert data labels. For the rest, I don't really know, wait for Calc guru.

Else, add drawing shapes.

Thanks to add '[Solved]' at beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

Open chart for edit by double clicking on it, select pie.
Right click "Insert data labels"
Second right click "Format data labels", select "Data labels" tab.
Unselect "Show value as number".
Select "Show value a percentage", then OK.

Thanks for that...But you misunderstood what we are trying to accomplish...My fault I was not specifically clear on that.

We are looking to add text names to each pie segment , such as..Lab time, Field work, Research, Record keeping,...etc.

This is available in Microsoft Word/or excel or whatever program my daughters friend has, and I just figured this program would as well...maybe not its starting to appear. :(

Edit the data labels and check the box for "Show Category"
You also have to edit the data ranges to include a range for categories (Right click anywhere in the chart, select Data Ranges.. , go to the Data Series tab and add the range with your labels to categories). Alternatively, make a new chart selecting a range with labels and values.

add labels that actually point to and label each pie segment
Heres one way:
"You can use "callouts"
Click on the little pencil icon next to the chart icon in the toolbar, this is " show draw functions"
down below there will be a new toolbar click on the balloon with lines icon or the one without lines "Callouts"
(example here is the one without lines)
You may have to make the callouts off to the side then drag them and the anchor for the line to where you want them.
you can type whatever you want in the callout. If after you have it the way you want, select all of them and the chart and go to the format menu---> group and group them, now you can move them as one to where ever you want,

With the chart selected

Insert > Data Labels > Show Category

Does it have to b e a pie chart? Pie charts are, typically, a poor way to show data particularly if you have more than, say, three categories.

A preferable way would be to use a dot chart but neither Calc or Excell offer it. A horizontal bar chart, what Calc calls a bar chart, with the data sorted in size is likely to be more informative. Sort of a poor man's dot chart. :)

when you click on the little balloons. your cursor will change to a crosshair, then just click and drag on your sheet where you want it and it will put it there.
