Using OpenOffice.org with SAP?

Hello all,
I've just been given a copy of OpenOffice 2.3 (loaded on machine with Windows XP). My task is to see if Calc will work with SAP (MySAP ERP 2004) - we're hoping to deploy OpenOffice company-wide, as our current spreadsheet program has now stopped being supported (by the spreadsheet company and by SAP). Has anyone had any experiance using OpenOffice with SAP? In particular, I'm inquiring about downloading ALV (Excel-type) reports.
Thanks in advance for any help

This is one to take up with the SAP help forums. SAP uses TSV extracts for some "XLS" reports and COM to Excel for others. This second path will not work because whilst OOo can read LS files its API, whilst functionally equivalent to Excel's is very different to it in detail -- about as close as English and French!

Thanks for the reply, Terry. I'll check out on the SAP Forum as well. I will say that after our last SAP LCP, we now have a "Star Office" type when exporting reports. It seems that things are working well after a very brief test...we're hoping that there aren't any major issues.

Lisa, SAP like many other Enterprise Application Providers will be supporting ODF in the near future since it is a lot easier to integrate and is used by other Office Automation products such as IBM's Lotus Suite. Keep us posted with your research.

With respect to OpenOffice.org and ODF support within different SAP products you might want to read the following blog entry and use the blog entry's comment feature for providing direct input:

Erwin, Thank's for your blog entry. This was very useful. I've changed the format of your post to use BBcode to make the reference a little easier to read.
