I have a Vista OS. Downloaded software and unpacked it. File was created in "Program File" directory. When I open the "Open Office 2.3" directory, there are no obvious program files - writer, calc, etc. There is no .exe file to click on. What do I do?
I used Open Office on my other computer and it worked fine - icons present, etc. Opened easily and very good. This time there is a problem. Also, no window opened up to allow me to agree to terms of use/license or to register. Installation wizard offers options "Modify" "repair" "remove" not "Complete" as in instructions - is this an issue? I have downloaded three times, deleting files prior to each subsequent down load. I turned off firewalls during down load. What am I doing wrong/missing?

Re: Cannot Get Download to Operate
Well after you download and start the process it does unpack into a directory - if the install does not continue then go into the directory it was unpacked to and look for the file setup.exe. Start this directly and it should finish the installation.

Re: Cannot Get Download to Operate
When I do that, I get - a welcome screen - a program maintenance screen with modify, repair, remove as options - a screen titled "custom setup" with modules, each of which states "this takes 0 MB on your hard drive (problem here?) - file type option screen - install screen - installation wizard complete screen (finish). Then nothing happens. This has been the same the three times I have downloaded.
Should I uninstall and try again?

Re: Cannot Get Download to Operate
Nope it is all installed.
On your start menu you should now have a program group for OpenOffice.org - you can start the different modules from there. But I have never used Vista so can't tell you for sure where on the menus it is. Sorry

Re: Cannot Get Download to Operate
There is nothing in my start menus from Open Office. I just "upgraded" to this new computer and Vista and am really lost. XP was fine - this is not.
I removed the files and downloaded again - went through the process - certificate of use, etc. but I cannot find an icon or .exe file that will start the program running. Every time I hit the startup file, it sets me on a installation/repair/modify/remove loop again.

Is that directory empty or not ? Try the soffice.exe or swriter.exe or scalc.exe, ...skipstiles wrote:When I open the "Open Office 2.3" directory, there are no obvious program files - writer, calc, etc. There is no .exe file to click on.

Re: Cannot Get Download to Operate
That did it - found the files in the directory for each of the applications - opened them to test and then created shortcuts to them from the desktop - THANKS!
