OpenOffice quits unexpectedly

hi all,

i got openOffice 2.3.1 on a new windows vista machine. every day openoffices quits out of the blue. it happens when i have writer and/or calc open. (have not used other modules). it is strange, one second the file(s) are open and the next it is just gone and I have to reopen them. The recovery screen does recover the files correctly...

anyone else seen this or have any ideas what i can do to stop this from happening?

Have you renamed your OOo user profile?

i have not renamed my ooo profile. not sure how.

It can be a fix: OOo will create a new profile with brand new configuration files (make sure OOo is shut down, including Quickstarter).

Still have the issue?

You can try to reinstall but deactivating the UAC before installation: Disable User Account Control on Windows Vista. Right click on the installer and run as administrator.

ya, still having massive problems. seems to be crashing more often. i have all but given up on this software. i was unable to do the stuff you recommend because in vista the steps to follow are just not the same as xp. i swear i think microsoft is moving functionality around from where it was in xp just for the fun of it! anyway, i might have to break down and buy office or do a google search for some other free product.

The thread I've provided is for Vista, not for XP.

You'd better give up Vista I guess. No such issues (or far less reported) with XP (and I spare you the Linux discussion).

What problems are you having, specifically? Are you unable to find the user folder in your OOo installation? What about the "Disable user account" thread? Having recently purchased a Vista computer myself, I can strongly recommend you try that UAC one, but both suggestions are well worth following through, so if you're having trouble, tell us where you're getting stuck so we can help. If you're just not confident about doing those things, tell us that too and we'll take time to walk you through it.
