[Solved] On WinVista, OOo 2.3.1 is taking too long to save

Post by seeDubb »

At first had the same problems as mentioned in the topic Upgrade to OOo 2.3.1 hangs up http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... =15&t=1640. I stumbled onto a solution to that one. I went so far as to completely uninstall v2.3.0 and then did a new install of 2.3.1 onto what I hoped was a clean machine.

Now I find that it taking a very long time to do either an autosave or a manual file save. It essentially hangs for several minutes then it recovers by itself. It's getting to be a real drag. What can I do to clean it up?

( btw, I only use Calc. )

Thanks,

Then, I guess you're running Windows, which version? Please read the Survival Guide for the forum.

If you refer to a thread, thanks to give the link to that one (just paste its address in your post, it will be recognized automatically by the board software).

Back to your issue, you should try to rename your OOo user profile (\Documents and settings\<user>\Application data\OpenOffice.org2).

Hagar,

Thanks for your help and your patience. Sorry for missing those things from the Survival Guide for the forum.

Now you said that I should "try to rename [my] OOo user profile (\Documents and settings\<user>\Application data\OpenOffice.org2)." Since I didn't tell you before that I'm working in Vista, I guess you assumed XP. As I try to go into the folder C:\Documents and Settings, I am told rather abruptly that that folder is not accessible. Am I trying to do it the wrong way?

OK, I tried another way, maybe the Vista way. I found what appears to be my OOo user profile at the following path, C:\Users\[name]\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice.org2, but I was not able to change its name nor the name of the user folder under it. Anything else?

Thanks Again,

Again under Vista, it seems to be a rights issue with the folders. Your user should have read/write permissions on that profile, check your account to grant it more rights.

OK, I made it through all of that and the problem still persisted. I then suspected file corruption, created a new file and copied portions of the data into it until I had it all in there. That was it. The saves are now as quick as ever.

Thanks, Hagar, for your fine time and attention.
