during installation validation phase with "Process ID: 2516 file in use". My OS is Win Vista Home Premium. Have been using OO 2.3.0 and no files are open, in fact now I can't open 2.3.0 and don't wan to lose any files trying to get either version to work. I've read related posts here and nothing seems to work. My Quick Start icon is frozen. not responding to left or right mouse clicks. Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated. Consider me a beginner when explaining.
Thanks, PeteB
Upgrade to OOo 2.3.1 hangs up
Re: UPGRADE TO OO 2.3.1 HANGS UP
You have quick starter running. Right click on this in the system try and exit it. You can't reinstall OOo with one of its images running
Ubuntu 11.04-x64 + LibreOffice 3 and MS free except the boss's Notebook which runs XP + OOo 3.3.

Exited the QuickStart icon. When the install got three-quarters of the way through the validation phase it came up with five things now, running in the background that have to exited before it will finish??

First, please read the Survival Guide for the forum. No caps here, I've modified your title.
I don't understand your last sentence. Have you gone through the whole process eventually? Quickstarter is a strange animal (I disable it systematically).

Had read the Survival Guide, missed the no-caps, sorry about that. The "installer validater" says it can't do its job because the following (gives a list of five) "things" are open, "Retry / Ignor. If I click either, it just starts trying to validate again and hangs up in the same spot.

OK, then, make sure that there is no Quickstarter left in the system tray. To be sure, you can also check the task manager and kill any soffice.bin or soffice.exe that could be still running.

Re: Upgrade to OOo 2.3.1 hangs up
Hi
I have had the same problem with my upgrade to 2.3.1 on Windows Vista home basic. I followed the instructions in this thread, exited Quickstarter for Open Office, then got the list of other things that were running. These turned out to be the numbers linked to services shown in the Task Manager. I was able to identify 3336 and 3908 as RoxWatch9 and RoxMediaDB9.
This was fairly meaningless to me, but I looked to see what was still running in QuickStarter and found a Media Manager - so I exited that (I knew Rox was a media thing).
I clicked on the Retry button for the upgrade and it went through ok.
So thank you very much for the help.
