[Solved] Converting a "Read only" file to 'editable'

Post by tom11 »

In a nutshell i need to know how to make a 'read only' document/file 'editable.'

A friend has converted an unfinished OO.o book of mine, to a Windows book, so Windows people can access it.

But she made it a "Read only" file which I can't convert to an editable file.

I think there is an easy way to do it which I have forgotten.

I was sent a 'read only' OO.o file not so long ago which I managed to convert to 'editable' but I cant remember how I did it and this 'read only' file here: http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=3e32 ... dd0ca2334f
is the Winows version.

Any ideas how to make it editable?

Thanks in advance.

Menu:
Tools, Options, OpenOffice.org, Security, uncheck "Open this document in read-only mode"
Then the trick is save the document by another name.
Close & open the document and it should work.

if not, go to Windows explorer window, Right click file, properties, general tab, attributes: unclick "read only"
Save.

When I couldn't quite follow instructions on the first post, I thought I had better report back about exactly what type of Windows doc we had, so I Right clicked on it and selected properties and saw the "Read only" box checked, so unchecked it and done.

If I hadn't discovered that the second post would have saved me.

Great community this.
