[Solved] Retrieve recent documents for new profile

Post by vince665 »

Solved/Edit]Hello,
I created a new user profile, and renamed the old user profile, but now all my recent files don't show up in the new user profile. How do I get them back, or see, my recent files. If I use the old user profile, the spell checker does not work.

I really appreciate any help you can provide.

Vince.

The Recent Documents list is just a way to quickly access the last few documents you've worked with. If the list is empty, the documents aren't gone. They are still on your computer in the folder(s) where you saved them. You can open them file File → Open.

As you open documents with File → Open and navigate to those folders, the documents will be added to the new Recent Documents list. Just open the files which formerly were in the Recent Documents list. You can do them all at once, or just as you need to use them. If you forget what folder a file is in, all operating systems have tools to help you locate documents by name or by content. You do not indicate in your signature what operating system you use, nor do you tell us what OpenOffice version you use, which limits the amount of assistance we can provide. Fix your forum signature in User Control Panel → Profile → Edit Signature.

If you don't remember what files used to be in the list, you can exit OpenOffice, rename the profiles so you can access the former one, and look at the old Recent Documents list. Perhaps take a picture of the list, in case you ever need to rebuild it in the future. Then exit OpenOffice again, rename the profiles so you can access the new one, and rebuild the Recent Documents list with File → Open. Never rename profiles while OpenOffce is running because this will confuse the program and could cause corruption of your profile.

If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit ✏️ button and add [Solved] to the start of the Subject field. Select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

Then better fix it in the first place.
See: [Troubleshooting] Spell check in OpenOffice.

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the button if your issue has been fixed.
