[Solved] Crashing and can't recover documents
I have a macbook pro using OS 14.6.1 and OpenOffice 4.1.7. I can't recover files to open and edit and when I try to do so it says the documents are either locked or don't exist.

Re: crashing and can't recover documents
Hi and welcome to the forum!
Try to reset your OpenOffice user profile.
What format? Native ODF (.odt/.ods...) or something else?
Do you save on your hard drive?
Canceling the recovery doesn't help?

Where do I find this?
Mac: Open Finder, and follow the picture in the Manual Method section of the previous post in this topic
These are ODT files
Yes, saved on my hard drive before.
Cancelling the recovery does not help.

Scroll that topic upward to find the relevant screenshots for Mac.
If still lost, try LibreOffice, see [Tutorial] Considering a Switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice? Some Useful Information.

Hi, and welcome to the forum.
If you're getting a different message, provide the exact message content. Or, that problem can be caused by using the wrong procedure to transfer files to a new computer.
I can't upgrade to MacOS 14.6 but I'm sure you can find several posts on the forum from people who run that version successfully.
Q16: Document file '………' is locked for editing by: ……….

Open the files from File → Open, not from File → Recent Documents if you are having that problem. You should know what folder contains your file. If not, read Apple's instructions for using Finder → File → Find.
Q02: How do I create a new profile on a Mac?
Files either recover or they don't. I think there's little point in trying more than once. Just accept that the most recent changes are gone and you'll have to use the version which you last saved (File → Save).

Thank you! Seems to be working with new user profile. Still have files to check.
