[Solved] Paragraphs begin on next page
So I copied some text from Google Docs to OO Writer, and there are gaps at the bottom of the page where a new paragraph is supposed to begin.
I have tried selecting all, then Paragraph - Text Flow - Do not split paragraph, and nothing changed. It was a mistake to add that as default!
Is this a bug?
Thanks

Re: New paragraphs keep moving onto the next page!
Hi and welcome to the forum!
Can you upload a sample file (see: How to attach a document here)?
Maybe better to paste as unformatted text.

Widow and Orphan control may also be affecting this. As Hagar says, often better to Paste Special, unformatted text, and reformat.

Re: New paragraphs keep moving onto the next page!
Hi, I have tried pasting unformatted, but it removes all the indents for paragraphs.
Not a problem to manually fix missing idents for a short document, but mine is over 160 pages long.
I have attached a file. This is with Paragraph set to Do not split, but it splits anyway.
Thanks

Select all (Ctrl A), then Ctrl M to clear any applied Direct Formatting. All should then be well

Re: New paragraphs keep moving onto the next page!
You applied direct formatting (that is formatting using Format - Paragraph/Character or the toolbar buttons) with one of the widow/orphan control attributes set to 5 lines, overriding the default setting in the paragraph style (2 lines each). That forces paragraphs of max 5 lines to stick together.
Always make all formatting changes that have to work for most of your text in the paragraph style instead of by direct formatting, except things like force a page break.

Re: New paragraphs keep moving onto the next page!
A great feature has been implemented in LibreOffice that tells the kind of direct formatting applied.
There, it shows that your orphan setting has been set to 5 lines instead of usually 2.
Go to the Text flow tab and set the orphan setting at beginning of paragraph to 2 instead of 5.
To be applied on the whole text. Or configure a paragraph style and use it.
Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the ✎ button if your issue has been fixed.

Re: New paragraphs keep moving onto the next page!
There is a mix of styles an direct formatting.
My example: Page 2, first and second paragraph.
First: No indentation, default tabulators.
Second: FirstLineIndent 0.99 cm.
There won't be a simple answer. You should reformat your document exclusively based on styles.

Re: New paragraphs keep moving onto the next page!
I checked the formatting for Text Body, which had no "do not split" setting, but widow and orphan at 2 lines, simply selected all, ctrl M to remove direct formatting, and all was well.
Using only para style "text body", paste special: unformatted text, the indents can be set by modifying "Text body", Indents and spacing tab, using Styles and Formatting, not Format Paragraph (which is direct formatting).

If you have not already read it, I strongly recommend you should read

which fairly succinctly covers the intricacies of using Writer.
