Document Recovery Failed

Post by bilvihur »

OO 4.1.15. I had created a new spreadsheet using save as, entered my usual password in both fields, was making modifications to the new sheet, when suddenly there was a power spike and the machine went down. Now when I try to open the spreadsheet I get a Recovery Failure. I know I'm using the correct password. Is there any way around the Recovery process? Thanks.

I have split your post from the initial topic since it's not really the same problem.
What is yours exactly? Still getting the recovery despite cancelling it or not opening the password protected file?

AOO is not that reliable regarding saving operation. I would suggest trying LibreOffice because they have revamped the saving code long ago. See [Tutorial] Considering a Switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice? Some Useful Information.

If the document doesn't recover then there is no point in repeatedly trying to recover it. One try is sufficient. If you are then continually being prompted for recovery, press Cancel at the recovery prompt.

A power spike or failure is often catastrophic, no matter whether you use Ope- or Libre-Office.

Thanks for responding so quickly Hagar and Rory. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and re-do the changes I already made before the power spike. I'll look into LibreOffice at a later time. Happy New Year/Bonne Année.

On starting a document one should immediately Save As to give it a name, and whenever one pauses for thought, press Ctrl S to Save it. Then there is a Saved copy hopefully only a few minutes out of date if there is a crash.
