Am getting error message 1500 that another installation is in progress.
How do I clear this?

This thread suggests you shutdown the computer and then retry the installation. Note that it should be a true shutdown and not just a quick restart.

cold start did not fix.

Here is a video that suggests killing msiexec.exe jobs in the Task Manager. Do you see any of those?
