Q45: Is OpenOffice for MacOS a 32-bit or 64-bit application?
A45: The last 32-bit version for MacOS was AOO 4.0.1. AOO 4.1.0 for MacOS (2014) and later are 64-bit applications. MacOS 10.15 (2019) and above require 64-bit applications. To check the application yourself, Click the  in the upper left corner. Hold the Option (⌥) key, then click System Information. Select Software → Applications. Scroll down and click OpenOffice. For any recent level of OpenOffice, the panel below will show 64-Bit (Intel): Yes. Also read Q06/A06.

Apparently Apple decided that for MacOS 14 that it was redundant to say that applications were 64-bit in the System Information dialog. I will update Mac FAQ.

Since the question of 32 or 64 bit also concerns the version of Java to make Base work, can you clarify whether it is also possible in Sonoma and M1 processor?
So far I haven't succeeded. Thank you.

That's my forum signature. I don't run Sonoma. I don't have a Mac with an M1 processor. My understanding is that recent MacOS releases have no 32-bit support and so you'd have to install a 64-bit Java for OpenOffice. Perhaps OpenJDK is needed for OpenOffice or Base on MacOS 14.
