[Dropped] Can't open database I created

Post by Alanja46@gmail.com »

Created a movie list db but can't open it. When I click on it I get openoffice base screen with create form or use wizard options. Nothing I try shows my list.

What do you see if you click on the Tables icon in the left pane?

No Java Runtime? Any driver missing?

Please be so kind to let us know...

Have a nice day!

It says I need JRE which I have doanloaded to my laptop now but it still says the same. If I look for Java in programs it only shows Configure Java whichI open, apply and click ok. But still not opening file.

You have to tell OpenOffice to use Java. Go to the menu Tools -> Options. Expand the OpenOffice list on the left and select Java. Select Use a Java runtime environment. Wait several seconds for the list to show the available Java. Click the radio button next to the listed Java and then click OK.
If no Java runtime environment is listed, then you probably downloaded a 64 bit Java. You need to download a 32 bit Java.

OpenOffice requires a 32 bit Java, which you can install alongside a 64 bit Java. You must then select the path to the 32 bit Java in /Tools /Options /OpenOffice :Java

Hello,

am astonished a little, because LO is native in ubuntu and it encompasses JRE environment, even if you have not yet downloaded Base.

Anyway, for AOO 4.x your JRE would be 1.8. Sorry if I cannot upload as its filesize exceeds limits.

With kind regards

Nick

Were correct, had d/l 64bit. D/l 32-bit and added it to Office. Now acts like it sees Java and does not tell me to add JRE but when I try to open the file it shows my Movies.odb on top but besides ; create form or use wizard options it now has create view but nowhere do I find my db.
Had no idea Office db was so convoluted to use. Excell always seemed to work for me back in the day.

Well, a spreadsheet and a database are very different things. If you want to use a spreadsheet, use Calc in OpenOffice.
How exactly did you make this db that OpenOffice will not display?

You meant: that's all Folks?

Are you closer to MS-Office, rather than AOO?

In any case, enjoy your job.

Please give more details. Did you make it with Excel? By Office, do you mean Microsoft Office?
