[Solved] New OpenOffice 4.1.13 download

Post by garynd »

Very simple, quick question. I am currently using (quite happily) 4.1.10. If I download 4.1.13 will it 'overwrite' 4.1.10 and will I lose the documents I have 'saved' on 4.1.10? TIA

Just install it and you will be fine, yes it will overwrite. However, the install will not affect your documents nor the content of your User Profile.

Above said take some good advice and switch to LibreOffice. OpenOffice is dying a slow death — best just to ditch it now. LibreOffice will open all your 'old' OpenOffice documents without problems and in day-to-day use LibreOffice isn't that much different to OpenOffice.
Edit: For some reasons on why you might want to switch see here: [Tutorial] Considering a Switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice? Some Useful Inf.
Windows 10 Pro. x64
LibreOffice (Still) 7.6.5.2 (x64) Fully installed to system
LibreOffice (Still) Portable 7.6.5.2 (x86) [PortableApps]

Windows has a list of the program files and settings that were installed for 4.1.10. When 4.1.13 is installed, Windows will remove only the program files and settings that are on the list, then install the program files and settings for 4.1.13. Data files (documents) aren't on the list of program files and settings so they aren't removed or modified in any way.
