[Solved] LO open; open file via Nautilus can cause LO CRASH
Hi All,
The title did not really fit, but I hope it is explanatory.
With version 6, it happens quite often that when LO is open and a file is in use (does not matter which one) trying to open a file via Nautilus causes LO to crash.
The LO banner will show when loading the file, and then it starts to flicker.
The only option is to xkill LO, and to restart LO.
This does lead to data loss, which is not acceptable.
I do sync and backup very regularly in the first place, but when using xkill, ~/.config/libreoffice can go corrupt as well.
On advise by Villeroy, I even sync/backup ~/.config as well, and have a clean copy of the libreoffice file in the .config folder for easy restore.
Is there anything known bout this phenomenon?
Is there is fix, maybe?
Please let me know, including any thoughts.

Re: LO is open; then open file via Nautilus can cause LO CRA
Quick shot in the dark:
Rename ~/.config/mimeapps.list and ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list
Log off, log in
This should reset file type assignments.
I don't have this problem with Ubuntu 18.4, LO 6.0 and 6.4

Did you have same behavior then open a file with another app?

Re: LO is open; then open file via Nautilus can cause LO CRA
Do you have multiple installations of Libre/OpenOffice? Any "quick-starters" in use?
Do you get any hints when you start the default application on terminal and then dbl-click a file in Nautilus? It may write some info to the terminal.

Never tried to open from the Terminal; will explore
Where do I find the logs?

Install Gnome Logs
Look for "libreoffice" and "nautilus" in application path within the applications log.

Maybe you should be asking Gnome experts?

Re: LO is open; then open file via Nautilus can cause LO CRA
The error message seemingly comes from Nautilus but the crashing program is LibreOffice. Nevertheless it could be a hint. What does the terminal tell you when you enter libreoffice and then provoke the crash?

See attached for Terminal info.
I took the liberty to reset the Desktop.
I will contact the Gnome experts as well.
I will keep you posted.

Solved by purging LO including ~/.config/LibreOffice.
