Hi and welcome to the forum!
Try to confirm if someone with MS PowerPoint can open it.
Then try LibreOffice that should have better compatibility with MS Office file format.
Else, no luck I fear.

This is part of the vendor lock-in policy.
LibreOffice 25.2 on Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE Faye) and 24.8 portable on Windows 11.

It may be that the copy of the file you received is corrupt. Ask for another copy. If the presentation has arrived by email, Save it to a local drive before trying to open it.

As Hagar says, you may be the victim of the vendor lock-in policy.

Thanks for the help.
I can open it in an old version of MS Office on an old W7 laptop and by going to office.com, I note it is .ppsx ...does that mean anything?
Thanks again

Try to open it with the LibreOffice.

The filetype list of the LibreOffice 6.2.8 (Sorry, my actual locale is Hungarian):
