I downloaded oracle-pdfimport and, although it took a long time to load the (16 page) document, it worked as I wanted. I simply copied the relevant pages from Draw and pasted them into Calc. A bit of adjusting of row & column sizes and I now have just what I need.
Interesting that OO, without pdfimport, loads garbage into Writer.
