I have a dual book Dell Inspiron 1520. OO works fine under MS Word (within MS Windows Pro), but crashes in Ubuntu. First crash was with a MS Word document I opened in OO. As soon as I clicked "Format" it crashed. This evening I tried creating a new document in OO. Things went well. In fact, I clicked "File" and saved the document. Then I decided to change the formatting for paragraphs. As soon as I clicked "Format" it crashed. Is there some way I can repair OO?

I have the same problem. Whenever I try to format anything, in both the word processor and with the spreadsheet, OOo immediately freezes up and goes all grey and lame. Also, with Impress, it freezes if I try to open something that I haven't already created in Impress. I'm running a HP Compaq nc6400 with a 1.8Ghz Core 2 and a gig of RAM. Help would be greatly appreciated, booting into XP makes me sad...

Hey, I poked around a bit on the forum, and found that if you reset the system skin back to Human (System>Preferences>Appearance), it fixes the problem. I tried it, it worked, awesomeness. Give it a try.
Thanks Hagar!

You're welcomed !
For information, if that doesn't do the trick, under Ubuntu, deleting the OOo user profile (~/.openoffice.org2) is also a good fix. OOo will create a new one, there are sometimes problem with the permissions.
