[Issue] Any way to stop the mouse capture by OOo dialogs?

Post by urandom »

OOo (3.0) tries to confine the mouse cursor to whatever dialog is currently open. If the mouse tries to leave the dialog, the cursor will be moved to its center. I find this behaviour extremely annoying. Is there any way to turn it off?

It doesn't do that for me (using Fedora 9). I would strongly suspect that it's something specific to your system. You may want to try renaming your OOo settings profile: ~/.openoffice.org/3

You might also try logging in to your system under a different user account with a fresh profile: perhaps a desktop setting has changed and conflicts with OOo3.

You're right. Turns out my window manager moves the mouse, since OOo refocuses the dialog whenever the mouse enters the parent window of that dialog. So is there any way to turn off this refocusing, and instead just not allow the parent window to be focused (like regular modal dialogs behave)?

I'm not sure I follow exactly what you're describing--I don't see any kind of cursor trapping or jumping, so I don't think that's OOo's fault.

However, OOo does do a lot of window "management," so-called, like raising dialog windows when the parent gets focus. I like to use "focus follows mouse" and OOo's silly window management drives me crazy.

As far as I know, there's nothing that can be done about it in OOo. There's certainly no user-changeable option.

That's completely different. It controls the mouse position when the dialog first appears.

This is the focus type I'm using as well, along with a feature that moves the mouse cursor to the newly focused window. It works great and helps show which window is now focused. But it fails miserably for OOo and OOo alone.

I can confirm the same using:
Enlightenment E17 WM
Openoffice 3.0
Arch Linux x86_64.

The behavior is normal when i set Enlightenment to "click to focus". The moment i set it to "pointer focus/sloppy focus", the mouse pointer can't leave any children window of OOo.... And I think this was present prior to OOo 3.0.

I'd just like to confirm the existence of this bug. I have the same setup as PeterKraus.

I can also confirm that this bug existed in 2.4.X
